10 November – Screening at the Mahebourg Social Welfare Center
The public responded well to the event, and more than 460 persons were able to benefit from this diabetes screening action. A team of 20 nurses and educators trained in diabetes prevention complete this screening program. Six medical students from the University of Réduit were part of the APSA team that day.
The results showed that among the people screened:
- 42%, i.e. 178 individuals had a random blood sugar above 7.2mmol/l
- 31% i.e. 132 individuals had hypertension.
Following this screening, APSA will provide educational follow up to those with diabetes and high cardiovascular risks. The education sessions will start at the social center of Mahebourg in January 2009.
